VMWare Fusion Keypad

Published by 81North under Technology, Tips and Tricks

I have fusion installed on an iMac. I have Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 installed in a virtual package. I noticed that the numeric keypad on my iMac did not function when I was working in the Virtual Windows application. So a brief search turned up a forum thread about it. I tried their suggestion and it did work. I haven’t restated the virtual machine yet, so I don’t know if this has to be done each time. It probably does - unless you "suspend" your VM instead of shutting it off.

Here’s the VMWare forum suggestion:

Use the "On-Screen keyboard in Windows XP"
Start -> All Programs -> Accesories -> Accessibility

click the "nlk" "key" and then close the on-screen keyboard.

now the 10-keys on the external USB keyboard works correctly!

A note here - the "nlk" key on the on-screen keyboard is located on the top row, just above keypad 7
